A 4.50mm solid Figaro chain necklace in 14K yellow or white gold, about 13.6 g at 18 inches. Between three and five millimeters is where most chain decisions are actually made. Below that band a chain is an accessory to something else; above it, the chain is the piece. At 4.50mm this Figaro sits at the top of the band, wide enough to wear alone at an open collar and narrow enough not to fight a shirt or a jacket lapel.

The short links in a Figaro are curb links. Each is twisted a half turn and then pressed flat, which is what makes them lie down instead of standing on edge, and the elongated links inherit the same treatment. That is why a Figaro stays face up on the skin, where a cable link of the same width will happily roll onto its side and show you nothing but wire.

The alternating rhythm also breaks reflections into a repeating sequence of long and short flashes, so the chain shows movement rather than one continuous sheet of shine. High polish throughout, closed with a lobster clasp.

How a Figaro chain is patterned

A Figaro alternates short round links with a longer oval link, most often three short to one long, so the chain keeps a steady rhythm along its length. DEEVE's Figaros come in two builds: solid, with more gold through every link, and a lighter build that keeps the width while weighing less. How does the 4.50 mm sit against the 6.00 mm Figaro?

It is the more restrained of the two. The 4.50 mm holds the Figaro pattern clearly while staying easy to wear under a collar; the 6.00 mm is the statement width.
