A 2.10mm high-polish paperclip chain bracelet in solid 14K yellow gold, 7 inches, about 2.3 grams. Pressure is force divided by area, which is why two bracelets of identical weight can feel nothing alike. A round wire touches the skin along a line. A flat link lies against it as a plane and spreads the same load over a far larger contact patch, so it registers as lighter than the scale says. At 2.3 grams over 7 inches there is very little load to spread here to begin with, and the flat-sided link is what makes it vanish altogether.

The name is precise about that link. Its long sides run dead straight rather than bowing, so the bracelet hinges only where one link meets the next and holds its shape everywhere in between. It arranges itself into clean segments around the wrist instead of pooling into a heap at the underside the way a very soft chain does.
