A rib link necklace in solid 14K yellow gold, about 15.9 g at 18 inches, that lies as a flat band. This chain bends in one direction only. Its segments run across the width rather than along the length, so the necklace folds freely front to back and stays rigid side to side, which is what lets it lie as a flat band on the collarbone instead of rolling onto an edge the way a round link will.

A run of parallel ribs is a run of parallel reflectors. They catch a highlight at the same moment and release it at the same moment, so the necklace flashes in bands across its width rather than in points along its length. High polish is what makes that read as one sheet of moving light.
