A hammered bead choker in solid 14K yellow gold on a cable chain, adjustable from 14 to 16 inches, about 3.8 g. A hammer does not remove metal; it moves it. Every strike compresses the gold under the face and pushes it outward, leaving a shallow dish with a slightly raised rim, so a hammered surface is a field of small concave mirrors rather than one flat one. Cutting does the opposite: a rotating tool shaves gold away to leave flat planes that behave like facets. Both treatments are on these beads, which is why they read as broken light up close and as soft texture from across a table.

The length is what files this as a choker. At 14 inches it closes on the throat itself, above the collarbone, where the neck is narrowest and a run of beads has to follow a tight radius to lie flat instead of standing away in straight sections.
