A 1.11 cttw milgrain diamond engagement ring in solid 14K white gold, its natural diamonds led by a 1.00 ct center stone, I (near-colorless) in color and I1 (included) in clarity. Milgrain is named for the tool, not the look. A knurled wheel is run along the edge of the metal under pressure, raising a row of tiny beads, mille-grain, a thousand grains, in a single pass a goldsmith cannot correct halfway through.

A beaded edge scatters light instead of throwing it back in one hard line, which is why milgrain reads as soft and old where a sharp modern edge reads as machined. It also blurs the boundary between metal and stone, so a setting finished this way looks grown rather than assembled.

The rest of the ring follows that logic. Baroque scrollwork carries the shoulders up to the head, and 18 accent diamonds weighing 0.15 carat between them trace the band, kept small because in this idiom the metalwork is the ornament and the stones punctuate it. The center is a round of about 1.00 carat, prong set and lifted above the detail.
